Psallam spiritu et mente

Singing the Psalms
in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford on Saturday, September 29th 2012 2pm

A day of singing and learning about the psalms, aimed at church musicians, clergy and the man and woman in the pew who would like to know more about this most beautiful and well-loved part of the Bible.

Led by John Paton, Precentor of Christ Church Cathedral, we will be looking at some of the ways the Psalms have been sung and used in worship over the last two or three thousand years, and concentrating, of course, especially on their use today. As well as singing (or listening, for those who prefer that!) we shall be looking at the meaning and interpretation of some particular psalms. Participants are invited to contact John Paton to suggest in advance any that they would particularly like to discuss.

Those who are able to stay after 5pm will be welcome to observe the cathedral choir being rehearsed for Evensong by the Organist of Christ Church, Dr Stephen Darlington.
